23 March 2012. Sure it sounds like a joke but I kid you not. Yes, there really is a
World Backup Day. World Backup Day is celebrated every year on March 31, the day before April Fool's Day. The event is to make people aware
of the importance of backing up computer data regardless of what media you prefer ... external hard drives, DVDs, remote location backups, etc.
It is quite symbolic for World Backup Day to be
celebrated the day before April Fool's Day (April 1) because if you don't backup your data and something happens to your computer as a result of a hard drive crash or it gets lost or stolen — and you end up losing all your files forever — then you'll
definitely feel like a fool for not backing them up. With all the gadgets and devices available nowadays for backing up your
computer files, ultimately the only person left to blame is yourself since you simply ignored backing up your data. Furthermore, backing up nowadays does not cost an arm and a leg as it did
15, 10, or five years ago. Backup options nowadays are so reasonably priced (or should we say cheap) and very affordable.
A study released by
Carbonite and Wakefield Research in Q4 2011 revealed that:
"Over half of Americans surveyed have experienced a crash where they have lost their data forever and, unfortunately, learned about the importance of backing up the hard way. Despite this, approximately two out of every five Americans have either never backed up their computers or have not done so in more than a year."
World Backup Day is a reminder for us to make sure that we backup our important computer files. Of course, when we have family photos of our kids growing up stored on our computers, we have a tendency to be complacent that nothing will ever go wrong. But in the event that something does happen, can we really afford to lose
all these precious and priceless memories? The practice of backing up documents and other digital files should be taken seriously and not be done whenever you only feel like doing it. You should do this as regularly as possible (hint: everytime
you have a new file in your computer or digital
device). As we have mentioned, there are a lot of
options nowadays for backing up your computer at
reasonable prices so there really is no excuse for
you not to safeguard your precious data files. Check
out our Carbonite
review and find out how this simple to use
remote backup solution can help you.
